Welcome

Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in our Racial Justice Programme Lead role, which is an important, strategic new post within the Bristol Diocese to provide senior leadership for the implementation of the Diocesan Racial Justice Strategy. Integral to our strategy are the commitments which the Church of England made in its publication ‘From Lament to Action’ (2021), in particular, the role that Bristol, as a port city, and the Church of England played in the trade of enslaved people.
As you will see from the job description the role is varied, with a strong external focus, and as the first post holder the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to shape its impact.
The Diocese of Bristol serves the people of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Wiltshire and Swindon. There are 30,000 people worshipping regularly in more than 200 churches, led by hundreds of clergy and licensed lay ministers who we train, and appoint to serve parishes and mission areas in the diocese. Around 15,000 children and young people attend our 71 church schools, while chaplains serve in institutions across our region.
We hope that the information you have will inspire your interest in this role, and the opportunity to join with us as we fight for racial justice across the Diocese, so that we move much closer to achieving God’s kingdom on earth.
The Rt Revd Vivienne Faull, Bishop of Bristol
The Rt Revd Neil Warwick,
Bishop of Swindon
The Very Revd Dr Mandy Ford, Dean of Bristol
